Where do the websites go after death? Personal experience
Long ago, more than 10 years ago, I started a website. More precisely, even two. The first was a typical home page in the style of narod.ru (if anyone remembers), honestly mapped using Notepad in HTML. There were no contacts or LiveJournal yet, so having your own site with a photo gallery, a news feed, a guest book and a visitor counter at the bottom of the page was cool. The second site in the domain com, was intended to accommodate several shareware programs. For him was even bought a corporate design template, so that looked like a site for those times, quite well.
Genius shareware, I did not, 1-2 sales per month brought income no more than $ 2? which could be enough except for a trip to McDonald's, update the home page over time, too, tired. Paying monthly for hosting was meaningless, and it was decided to close these sites, just do not renew them, and the deal is over.
A couple of years have passed. Imagine my surprise when, for the sake of interest, typing the address of both pages, I saw that both sites still exist. How do they work? Details under the cut. http: //vasyaupkin.spb.ru , and except me, and can a complete surname, who lives in the same city, no one would be needed. Therefore, it was 100% obvious that after not renewing the domain, it would simply go into oblivion.
But it was not there. Having typed my address, I saw something like this.
Texts are fouled, so as not to make new owners free advertising, but the sample content consists of randomly created texts such as "bbw in underwear", "tattoo for free" and other nonsense.
Of course, since the address of the site was known by friends and acquaintances, and he was searching for my name and surname, I did not want to have a page with "bbw in underwear" when opening "my" page.
The first thought was that it was "moonlighting" the admins of my hosting provider - they just jammed the released domain with random content, and they hoped for some pennies from clicks from random visitors. However, the provider's technical support responded that they had nothing to do with, the domain was renewed elsewhere. As shown by whois, hosting is the American Cloudflare, and the date of the last update is 2017-02-17. No less important is the fact that neither closing the site nor changing its contents is no longer possible.
The page on the .comdomain.
Let's say that the pages are filled with random text, it's quite easy. With the second page everything was even more original. "New owners" saved all the old texts, screenshots and page hierarchy, replacing the site template with a modern one. Only removed all links, only text is left. On the main page, only the advertisement of some VPN Port Forwarding service has been added (I'm not going to give the link, of course).
It turned out a kind of "flying Dutchman", a site with empty pages leading to nowhere.
Data whois say that the domain is quite active, although the hoster is already different:
Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.namebright.com
Registrar URL: www.DropCatch1129.com
Updated Date: 2018-03-12T07: 21: 26Z
Creation Date: 2018-03-09T19: 32: 02Z
Registry Expiry Date: 2019-03-09T19: 32: 02Z
Of course, as in the previous case, neither remove the domain, nor change its contents, it is already impossible, it belongs to the new owners.
The result as a whole turned out to be interesting - as it turned out, "scavengers" exist on the Internet, and even completely unnecessary and closed site, may well "resurrect" again. Although with the household, and from a legal point of view, everything is clean - that was thrown away, the owner no longer belongs. The fact that the name of the site coincides with someone's name, the reason for its closure can not be. In the second case, theoretically it would be possible to get to the authorship of the texts, but there is no practical sense in this.
It is probably impossible to fight with this, except that all the time to renew the domain itself, which would also be pointless. But the owner of home pages should be borne in mind - do not be surprised if on the page with your name and surname then it turns out to be completely left content.
PS: By the way, as it turned out, abandoned 10 years ago the page on narod.ru is still open, and neither delete nor change it is impossible - the old login, of course, has not worked for a long time.
